‘Salman’s yorkers revived old memories’ Waqar Younis

LAHORE: Former pacer Waqar Younis highly praised Peshawar Zalmi’s pacer Salman Irshad who impressed him with his yorkers bowled against Islamabad United in Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7’s first Eliminator on Thursday.Ā 

In a Tweet after watching some deadly yorkers bowled by Irshad, Younis said the youngster reminded him of his old days.

“Another Lahore Qalandars’ product Salman Irshad, Super Spell. Good speed and accuracy. Purani yaadain taza kar deen with those beautiful inswinging Yorkers. Excellent game of Cricket. Big congratulations to Islamabad,” the legendary pacer wrote.

Salman clean bowled Alex Hales and Asif Ali by bowling impressive yorkers.

Rain expected today before PSL 7’s second Eliminator

LAHORE: Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7’s second Eliminator between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United can be affected by rain in the city today as predicted by the Met Office.Ā 

As per the prediction, the city will receive rain between 3 pm to 6 pm. The ground staff at Gaddafi Stadium has covered the square.

The knock-out game can be played with reduced overs. In case of a wash-out, Qalandars will qualify for the final due to winning more matches at the group stage. Shaheen Afridi-led Qalandars also beat United twice in this tournament.

It must be noted here that Multan Sultans are already in the final after they beat Qalandars by 28 runs in the Qualifier on Wednesday.

Blind Cricket to roll into action before PSL 7 Eliminator 2

KARACHI: Blind cricket team will play an exhibition match before Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7’s second Eliminator on February 25.Ā 

According to the details, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken an initiative to promote blind cricket during its biggest event.

The exhibition match will consist of four-overs-a-side and national blind cricketers will take part in it. The match will be played from 3:45 pm PST at Gaddafi Stadium.

It must be noted here that South Africa blind team will be coming to Pakistan in March to play five ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI series will take place in Karachi whereas Faisalabad and Lahore will host T20Is

Usman, Sohail of Zalmi, Hales of United available for PSL 7 Eliminator 1

LAHORE: Usman Qadir and Sohail Khan of Peshawar Zalmi and Alex Hales of Islamabad United will be available to their teams for Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7’s first Eliminator.Ā 

“In light of the amendments of Health and Safety Protocols, which were proposed by the six franchises and approved by the PCB after consultation with Medical Advisory Panel (MAP), Usman, Sohail (both PZ) and Alex (IU) are available for tonight’s Eliminator 1,” PCB released a statement.

Zalmi’s batting coach, Hashim Amla has also recovered from COVID-19 and will be in their dug-out during the first Eliminator.

On Wednesday, Multan Sultans beat Lahore Qalandars by 28 runs to qualify for PSL 7’s final. Sultans, under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, qualified directly from Qualifier to the mega final for the second consecutive year.

Michael Vaughan praises ‘fewer games’ concept of PSL

KARACHI: English cricketer-turned-commentator Michael Vaughan highly rated Pakistan Super League (PSL) in terms of fewer games.Ā 

Taking to Twitter, Vaughan said PSL leaves fans wanting a little bit more at the end of the tournament.

“PSL has it spot on, high-quality players, fewer games than other tournaments making it a few weeks shorter. It leaves you wanting a little bit more at the end, other tournaments don’t,” he wrote.

Hales to rejoin Islamabad United for PSL 7 knock-out stage

LAHORE: Islamabad United’s opener Alex Hales will be rejoining the franchise for the knock-out stage of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7.Ā 

As confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Hales will be rejoining two-time PSL champions for the playoffs.

Remember, England’s opening batsman left PSL 7 halfway due to personal reasons. United will take on Peshawar Zalmi in the first Eliminator of PSL 7 on February 24.

‘Pray for us’ Rizwan asks fans before all-important PSL 7 qualifier

LAHORE: Multan Sultans’ captain Mohammad Rizwan asked fans to pray for them as they take on Lahore Qalandars in Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7’s Qualifier today here at Gaddafi Stadium.Ā 

In a video message released on Sultans’ Twitter handle, Rizwan said their team is united and playing like a unit.

“We have played like a unit throughout the tournament. Our target is to win the Qualifier and qualify for the final,” he said.

“I would like to request our fans to remember us in your prayers. Your prayers will make us strong,” he added.

Defending champions Sultans will be playing PSL Qualifiers tonight for the third time in a row. In 2020 and 2021, they contested in PSL Qualifiers.

Shadab resumes training, likely to lead Islamabad in playoffs

LAHORE: Shadab Khan recovered from his groin injury and resumed training before all-important playoffs in Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7.Ā 

The all-rounder is most likely to lead Islamabad United in the playoffs stage as per the sources. Meanwhile, Zeeshan Zameer failed to recover from a side strain and will miss the knock-out stage.

Pacer Hasan Ali will have to wait for his medical reports before United’s management take decision regarding him.

England’s Will Jacks have completed isolation here and will be available for playoffs.

United are currently at number four position on the points table. They are most likely to meet Peshawar Zalmi in the first PSL 7 Eliminator.

‘Will miss PSL 7, keep supporting LQ’ Rashid Khan

LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars’ leg-spinner Rashid Khan will bid farewell to Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7 after playing the last match against Islamabad United today [Saturday].

Before leaving the event, Rashid thanked his fans for all-out support to him and Qalandars. “It’s hard to leave PSL 7 and my fans here. But, I have to go due to my national commitments,” he said.

“I have always enjoyed playing for Qalandars in PSL. It’s like a family for me. My fans here are too supportive and their support makes me stronger,” he added.

Afghanistan’s spinner wished his franchise ‘best of luck’ and hopes that they will win their maiden PSL title this year. “I am leaving but my wishes are for my team. Inshallah, this time we will win PSL,” he concluded.

It must be noted here that Rashid will join Afghanistan’s squad who will play three ODIs and two T20Is against Bangladesh from February 23.

Hasan sustains injury at eleventh hour, ruled out of contest against LQ

LAHORE: Hasan Ali sustained an injury at the eleventh hour and Islamabad United has to replace him with Marchant de Lange with the permission of Lahore Qalandars for today’s 27th contest in Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 7.Ā 

PSL 7’s management, as per rule 1.2.1 of the playing conditions which says that both captains must agree to player’s replacement is such a condition, gave permission to United to go with Lange as Hasan’s replacement.

The two-time PSL champions have taken to Twitter to thank the Qalandars’ skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi for his cooperation.
