PCB reveals pick order for PSL 10 Player Draft

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday revealed the pick order for the Player Draft of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10.

The Player Draft will take place in the port city of Gwadar in Balochistan on Saturday, 11 January 2025. The start timing of the event will be shared in due course.

The two-time champions Lahore Qalandars will make the first platinum pick in the PSL 10 Player Draft, followed by Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators.

Peshawar Zalmi will have the fourth pick while last season’s runners-up Multan Sultans and reigning champions Islamabad United will make the fifth and sixth picks in the first round, respectively.

The second round of the Platinum category will take place in reverse order, beginning with United making the first pick, followed by Sultans, Zalmi, Gladiators, Kings, and then Qalandars.

It’s important to note that each of the six franchises will have a total of three picks in the platinum, diamond, and gold categories.

Karachi Kings will make the first pick in the diamond category, while Multan Sultans and Islamabad United kick off the second and third rounds respectively.

In the gold category, Zalmi will be making the first choice in the first round, followed by the Gladiators in the second round, while Sultans have the first pick in the third round.

It’s worth noting that the relegation process and retention of players will be announced at the end of December.

PCB reveals venue of PSL 10 Player Draft

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced that the port city Gwadar in Balochistan will host the Player Draft for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10.

The ceremony that kicks off the league’s festivities will take place on Saturday, 11 January 2025. The start timing of the PSL 10 Player Draft will be shared in due course.

The decision to choose Gwadar was made with the aim of taking the popular sport among the people in that part of the province and inspiring the next generations to take up cricket as a professional sport.

“Gwadar, with its stunning coastline and strategic importance, represents the heart of Pakistan’s economic future,” PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said.

“By hosting the HBL PSL Player Draft here, we aim to highlight its cultural and economic significance while celebrating the unity cricket brings to our nation.

“I look forward to welcoming all the franchises and the relevant stakeholders to the beautiful city of Gwadar on 11 January as we take an exciting step towards marking the start of the 10th edition of Pakistan’s biggest sporting extravaganza.”

Meanwhile, Salman Naseer, Chief Executive Officer of PSL, expressed pride in taking the PSL 10 Player Draft to the city of Gwadar.

“It gives me great pride in announcing Gwadar as the host city for the HBL PSL Player Draft,” said Naseer.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to expanding HBL PSL’s reach to every corner of Pakistan and showcasing the beauty of Pakistan to the world.

“HBL PSL is more than a cricket league to passionate fans of Pakistan, it’s a celebration of Pakistan’s passion, diversity, and talent.

“The Player Draft taking place in Gwadar is a step towards inspiring young cricketers from Balochistan and other cities of the country to dream big.”

PSL 10 Player Draft schedule revealed in newly-released promo

LAHORE: The management of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) announced on Tuesday that the Player Draft for the upcoming season 10 will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

A captivating 26-second promotional video was released on PSL’s social media, signalling the countdown to the much-anticipated player draft with the caption, “The countdown begins.”

On the other hand, sources have revealed that an important meeting is scheduled for later this week to delve into various matters concerning the upcoming edition of the league.

The sources also revealed that the registration process for both domestic and foreign players will also start in the coming days.

Reports also indicate that the six franchises have proposed the idea of conducting the player draft for the PSL 10 overseas, with potential locations being either England or Dubai.

Furthermore, the franchises are keen on attracting prominent foreign players for the forthcoming edition, particularly those who may have been overlooked in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction.

It’s worth noting that the PSL 10 will clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), which runs for two months from late March to late May every year.

The PSL is held every year in the February-March window but due to its collision with the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the cricket board came up with an alternative window.

As per the PCB press release, which was released on August 5, 2024, the tenth edition of the PSL will now be played from April 10 to May 25.

PSL 9 Player Draft to take place on December 13

LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) Player Draft for the ninth season will take place at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore on Wednesday, 13 December 2023.

The flagship event is tentatively scheduled from 8 February to 24 March 2024.

The pick order for the PSL 9 Player Draft was finalised earlier this month with Quetta Gladiators set to make the first pick of the draft.

The selection order for the first round for the Platinum category was determined by the inverse order of the previous season’s standings.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kings will have the first Diamond pick, Peshawar Zalmi will have the opening Gold pick, Multan Sultans will have the first pick in the Silver category, Islamabad United will pick the first player in the Emerging category and Lahore Qalandars will have the first Supplementary pick.

The process of local player category renewals for the upcoming ninth edition of the tournament was completed on 10 November with categories upgraded for nine players.

The registration window for foreign players was opened on 25 October with several top players across the globe showing interest.

The retentions and trades are to be finalized before the PSL 9 Player Draft, after the completion of the National T20.

Earlier today, Karachi Kings traded Imad Wasim to Islamabad United for Hasan Ali and received Islamabad United’s first-round silver pick in exchange for their second silver pick.

The exact time of the HBL PSL Player Draft 2024 will be unveiled later.
